Legal Question in Family Law in New Jersey
My son just filed for divorce in Connecticut and need to make a loan to get a divorce lawyer and a place to rent. a father, 'm also thinking of possibly helping him financially. Will it be better for him to get a loan in the midst of this divorce instead of us helping him? ill there be a negative repercussion on his case if we provide him with this help?
1 Answer from Attorneys
There probably will be negative repercussions if you don't help him. He is much better off with a lawyer and if your financial assistance is the only way he can get the lawyer, then you are doing him a favor. The lawyer can make it clear in the context of the divorce action that this was not his money and is a debt that needs to be repaid. Keep in mind that this advice is based purely on the little bit of information that you have given to me. There certainly may be other factors that would change my opinion. Further, no one can rely on advice from an attorney who has not been retained. You will only be able to rely on advice from an attorney who you have actually retained. Good luck! Rob Gleaner
