Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

Employer giving me hard time over being sick

I am employed by a large well known insurance company. This company has a policy written in the company handbook stating that I am to receive 8 sick days.

Over the weekend I was involved in an accident where I fell off a ladder. I felt that my leg was too injured and needed to rest it for a few days.

I have taken both Monday and today off. I had called both my supervisor and manager to let them know and followed up with a detailed email.

My employer appears to be giving me a hard time in regards with repeated phone calls and emails. It seems that the manager is agitated because he had a lot of work for me to do.

Is there any laws that can protect me in this regards if I get terminated or harrassed at my work for legitimately calling in sick according to the company policy?

Should I tell my boss that I am going to consult with an attorney over their actions?

Re: Employer giving me hard time over being sick

It would be a very good idea for you to obtain a doctor's note supporting your contention that you are injured and are legitimately taking a sick day. I'd have such a doctor's note faxed to your office. Depending on the circumstances you may be protected under state and federal law, however, I recommend that you speak face to face with an attorney to go over your rights under the law.
