Legal Question in Employment Law in New Jersey

I tried to resign from a consulting agency I work for (due to ethical concerns, poor benefits, and other reasons). One of their recruiters (not HR or a lawyer) sent me an email threatening to file a lawsuit against me if I go through with it, because they trained me and haven't made a return on their investment yet. My offer letter and employee handbook state I'm an at-will employee and can leave at any time for any or no reason, regardless of length of employment or granting of any benefits. Do they have any grounds for suing me, or are they bluffing to scare and keep me as an employee?

Anyone can sue you for just about anything so I'm sure they could put together something. Whether they would be successful at trial is another story but that would require you to spend a fortune on a lawyer and you may wind up settling. Your best defense would be to hire a lawyer at this point. It would be very cheap and could scare them to go away. Call me at 1-855-9-JEFLAW to discuss.
