Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

Landlord did not receive rent payment

Hello, I rented an apartment on August first. I paid first, last, and 0ne month security deposit before moving in. I paid September's rent with 2 money orders totalling 800.00. I mailed them in the provided envelopes. I had a notice posted on my door stating they did not receive my payment. I cannot find the money order receipts. I called 7-11 where I purchased them. They said they cannot help me without the receipts. I am being taken to court Nov. 2nd. I cannot afford to pay the 800.00 twice. Is there any thing I can do? I am afraid they will evict me. Thank you for your time.

Re: Landlord did not receive rent payment

You need to show how you made payments. Without the receipts this is going to be impossible. You may be able to hire a attorney & subpena the records from 7-11.
