There is really no defense to the ticket. You can either pay it by mail or online and save your time and the court costs or call court plead not guilty. Then appear in court show registration and then hope prosecutor and judge agree to waive fine and impose court costs only.

There is no points and no suspension for failure to show registration

Mr. Ducey is correct, there is no defense. Presumably, the officer stopped you for something that might have warranted a violation; speeding, failing to yield, etc., which would have amounted to points on your license, potential increases in your car insurance, as well as a fine. Instead, the officer gave you a ticket for a document offense, which carries no points and no impact on your insurance in essence, the officer cut you a break at the scene, though the ticket he did write carries a higher fine than most moving violations.

That said, you can show up at court, bring the documents with you, then talk to the prosecutor and see if the prosecutor will agree to waive the fine and impose court costs only. That depends on each Judge some never allow it, some do. If the prosecutor wont allow it, most of the time it is because the prosecutor knows the Judge wont approve it.
