How did your mother get stuck with your father's credit card debt? Did he die? Did it happen in a divorce? If he died, the estate pays for the credit card debt. If there isn't enough in the estate, and it's unsecured debt, they are out of luck. I hope your mother didn't sign anything committing herself to the credit card company. All too often, creditors guilt survivors into paying for debts they don't owe under the law.
