Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Box Cutters in NYC

I am aware of laws against the possession of ''Gravity Knives''

in NYC. I work in a warehouse & trucking co. which requires I

carry a box-cutter or knife. I carry a folding utility knife with

replaceable single edged razors (reversible). Am I in violation

of the law carrying this to work on the subway? I have no

convictions for any crimes, and would like to avoid one.

As a note, the tool requires a ''casual'' user to use two hands

to open it, and the blade/housing locks into place

automatically. After years of use I can flick it open with my

thumb and a deft wrist movement. It is a Sheffield lockback

utility knife (google) if a picture would help.

Re: Box Cutters in NYC

If you are stopped for any reason and such a weapon is found on your posession you may be arrested... I would suggest not carrying the knife on your person, if you must then I would suggest carrying it in a locked utility box.

Much luck.
