Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

My former employees have made false allegations of theft about me.

I quit my job my job 4 months ago. Now my employer is saying that I was going back into thier facility after I quit and stole items. I handed my keys in the day I left. I left on great terms. They recently found out that I had a business on the side slightly related to thier business. They even sent out memos to all employees stating: that I am a suspected thief and have been engaging in unauthorized use of thier facility. and have been conducting an internal investigation. I did not steal from them. I have not gone into thier office after I quit. I have receipts for all of my products. What do I do to clear my name? What things do I need to prove to clear me of this type of accusatons. In what ways can they even go forward with this if it is totally not true?

Yes, if they have evidence that you are a thief they may go to the police and have you charged.

On the other hand, if they have no evidence and are slandering you in order to harm your competitive business or for some other reason, then you can sue them, provided YOU have evidence that their statements are untrue and harmful.

It all comes down to who can prove what.
