Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am the non custodial parent of my children in which I will be fighting for custody ; however Iam the father and it is very hard for me. The mother has a new felony conviction and was indicated by child protection services for abuse of the afore mentioned children. Does this strengthen my case?
