Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

lawsuit?

As a coop owner, I rent A storage space locker in my building's basement.

Another owner did construction and without notification, broke into my personal space locker to gain access to a pipe, damaging my property.

I only found out about this after it happened as I went down to the basement weeks later!

what can I do?

Re: lawsuit?

If the damage to the property is costly, I would contact your insurance broker to file a claim.

If the damage does not significantly exceed deductible, or if the loss is not covered by your insurance, I would send a demand letter to both the condominium and the individual that damaged you property requesting reimbursement for the loss.

If after notice and a reasonable period of time nothing happens, you should quantify damages and commence an action for the loss.

Re: lawsuit?

It your claim is covered by insurance, then insurance company will compensate, and if the loss is not covered, then send legal notice and wait and approach court after waiting reasonable time.
