Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
Hi there.
I was wondering if you can help me answer a few questions. My wife enter the United States on Dec 25,2009. We got our SS card already. I received I-797 notice of action letter on Feb 8, 2010. The mail was open and inside appears to be a welcome letter. The notice saids welcome notice.
My question is.
1. Does the green card comes with the letter I-797 because i'm afraid someone will take my wife's greenn if it's include in the welcome letter.
2.Does the green card comes after the welcome letter?
3.If it's lost can someone use it for my identification?
Please, if you have any knowledge about this. Can you kindly return an E-mail for me?
Thank you so much.
Have a great day
Tony

Hi Tony:
The green card usually arrives in the mail 2-3 weeks after receipt of the welcome letter.

The green card always arrives separately from the I-797 notice. It will be mailed to your home address in a white legal size envelope by a first class mail (not certified). Yes, sometimes it can be lost. However, in your case, I suggest you wait a few more weeks, as it's still within a reasonable timeframe.

Dear Tony
Permanent resident card can be lost, but it does not look like this a case since welcome letter comes first and actual card arrives in about 30 days.
