Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Religion rights at work

I was hired by a local retailer. I worked 1.5 days without being interviewed (and was told I would be). At mid-day on the second day, I am asked to remove my hat. It is against my Buddhist religion to remove my hat. Since I never was interviewed, the employer does not give me a right to religion. I was not given an opportunity to state why kept my Buddhist hat on.
