Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

assumption of debt

My daughters husband still owes for his student loan (obtained before marriage) and back alimony from his previous marriage. If he should die or if they divorce, do these two debts become her responsibility? Also can she purchase a home on her own credit and in her own name without using his name?

Re: assumption of debt

Re: husband's debt - generally, no - although this is less of a credit question and more of an estates/wills question.

Re: purchasing home - yes, she can, and should go that route if she's interested in purchasing at all.
