Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in North Carolina

civil summons...

I was served a civil summons from an old credit card dept that I owe. I hav e no personal property(i rent and my car is not paid for) what can they do to me if a default judgement is made. My credit is already very bad. Can they put me in jail or anything like that?

You can't go to jail for owing money unless you have committed some type of fraud. Please research collections by doing a google search on fair debt collection. You should not necessarily just allow a default judgment b/c you may have valid defenses like the Statute of Limitations or they may be suing for an inflated amount that you should contest.
