Legal Question in Traffic Law in North Carolina

traffic citation

I received a traffic ticket in N.C. for speeding. It states that I MUST appear in court. I live in Florida and have previous plans to be out of town from 4/29 to 7/29. I would like a lawyer to represent me and pay the ticket as no contest.

If it is a criminal citation, which it must be to require your appearance, then you must "appear". But, in most relatively minor traffic charges you can hire a lawyer to represent you by written waiver of your appearance. NC does not have "NO CONTEST" in the sense that you are thinking and that exists in other states such as Georgia in the form of a Nolo Contendre. NC does have "Prayer for Judgment Continued", but that will count as a guilty for resident of roughly 45 or 46 states that do not recognize a PJC.

I recommend that you ask a local attorney to represent you in this matter as simply paying a criminal traffic ticket can cause your license to be revoked, even in another state. www.EstwanikLAW.com
