Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

No regular visitation

My ex-husband has never really established a regular schedule of visitation. He started seeing the children on a bi-weekly basis and suddenly changed to the 1st and 3rd weekends of the month. This of course confused and upset the children and now sees them perhaps once a month, if at all. When he does see them he is late. This is affecting them emotionally and I don't know what I can legally do if anything.

I was told during our divorce that the courts could not "make" him pick his children up.

You tell me.

Re: No regular visitation

From your last sentence it sounds like you were expecting the worst during the divorce. What you were told is correct. The court can't make him be a good parent. As far as visitation goes, alot depends on the wording of the order. If the court just gave him "reasonable visitation" and no specifics, it's pretty much up to you to decide what's reasonable. If there is a specific order, it depends on what it says. If it provides a set schedule you can require he adhere to it to see the kids. If it requires so much notice or coming at a certain time. Again, you can require him to adhere to it. You might want to consult a lawyer to go over the decree and determine exactly where you stand.
