Re: marriage to a citizen

After you marry, your American citizen spouse applies for you to become a permanent resident. At the same time, you can apply for a work permit if you don't already hae one. While this application is pending, you should receive a work permit. About 60 days after this (depending on where you are located) you will be notified to attend an interview. If all goes well at the interview, then you are sent your permanent resident card. May people have been waiting a very long time for their green card, not because immigration has denied them but because the FBI clearance process has been waiting a long time. It seems that immigration does not have the ability to speed up the FBI clearance process. Good luck.
