Re: worker rights

This depends on what the nature of your employment is, e.g., at-will v contract, applicable guidelines, etc. Please contact me at my office to discuss. I would like to hear exactly what was said to you, and/or read whatever they put in writing re this. I look forward to hearing from you.

Re: worker rights

It's going to depend a great deal on the local ordinances and state statutes regarding police operation and the department handbooks/regulations as promulgated by the city/department. It's possible that you are forbidden as a part of your employment from holding business relationships outside the department with a subordinate officer. It'll take much more research and reading to know for sure if they are exceeding their authority. I'd start with the department regs and handbook and then work to local ordinances. If you don't find anything there, it's unlikely that state statute forbids this type of business relationship.
