Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

Collecting Back Rent

My sister owns a house in Columbus, Ohio and recently had to ask her tenants to vacate. They were 4 months delinquent on the rent, amounting to over $4,000. My sister relied on that money to pay her mortgage. She is on the verge of being forclosed upon. What route does she need to take to collect the back rent? Does she file in small claims court (which state) or file bad check charges? The tenants paid their rent by check every month, but the checks were always returned due to insufficient funds.

Re: Collecting Back Rent

I cannot advise how to go about collecting the rent, but if the property is in Ohio, that's where the action has to be brought. It would be a landlord-tenant matter.

Your sister should consult with a real estate attorney with experience in landlord-tenant matters in the County in Ohio where the property is located.
