Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio
Job Relocation and breaking a lease
I've lived at my rental property for four years now. Just a few months ago, the property was sold to a new landlord. Now my job is requesting that I relocate in order to continue. If I do not accept, I will be looking at a very real possibility of being laid off indefinitely and have to find a job again.
I resigned for another year back in February of this year, meaning I have another 5 months to go before I can leave under the terms of the lease. But if I don't take this job opportunity, I stand a chance of losing my job and not being able to pay rent anyway.
I do not have any relocation assistance other than the deposit at the new place and I have no savings or extra money to make a deal.
What are my options? Do I have to make a deal and if so, do I have to have the money immediately, because I don't. If we go to court, will the circumstances of the move help my case at all? Am I supposed to decline an opportunity to advance my career because I owe money I can't pay?
Just curious what advice anyone has. Thanks!

Re: Job Relocation and breaking a lease
I would talk to your landlord, and give him the 30 days writen notice to quit. He can sue you for the remaining unpaid rent, but it sounds like the employment opportunity is worth it. Make sure you give a forwarding address so you can have your security deposit sent on at the end. Subleasing might also be an option, but the weird term length will be a problem.
