how do we get power of attorney for our mother who has alzheimers?

It depends on the serverity of her alzheimers. If she is competent to sign a power of attorney I suggest you contact an attorney who can draft the power of attorney and supervise her signature.

If she is not competent you will need to seek a probate court guardianship.
