Judgements

I have a judgement against by a creditor. It was entered on 10/00. How long do they have to come after me? I thought it was only 7 yrs and after that they can not come after me for the money any more.

Re: Judgements

You asked how long judgment are valid.

Generally judgments are effective for 20 years. They may be reported by consumer reporting agencies during that entire time, but are generally removed when the judgment is satisfied.

You are mistaken your understanding. Debts are reportable for 7 years after the debt goes into dfault or is charged off. Debts may not even be collectible for that entire period. But debts that are reduced to judgment last for 20 years. After that a judgment debtor can seek to have the judgment renewed. Sorry.
