Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Legal Next of Kin

I am 19 and I want to change my legal next of kin to someone I trust rather than my biological relatives since I want to cut them out of my life. I know that people entering into same sex partnerships have done something similar so that their partner will have the same legal rights as a the legal next of kin. Can I do something similar with a close friend so my parents or anyone else related to me will no longer have these rights? If so, how would I go about doing so?

You can prepare a will, power of attorney, living will and health care proxy.

Should you like to discuss this or any other legal matter, you can e-mail me for more information about low cost face-to-face, on-line, or a telephone consultation with a lawyer in our office.

You really can not sever your parents rights as next of kin but what you can do is create a living will and health care proxy that would give another person the right to make decisions if and when you are incapicated.

I should warn you that if this is challenged, it could end up in court and become very messy but it is the easiest way to accomplish what you want.

If I can be of any help you can contact me at 516/746/4747 or at [email protected]
