Legal Question in Family Law in Pennsylvania

Middle-aged marriage

After I get married, will my new husband be held responsible for any/all of my debts that I have incurred myself over the previous years? If I were to die unexpectedly before I finished paying them in full, how would he be affected? I do have Life Insurance. I have credit cards in my name only but what concerns me more is my daughter's college loans; one is a Parent Plus loan in my name only and the other I co-signed for her. She and I recently entered into repayment status so we have many years to go until they get fully paid. Where can I read up on how we can better protect each other legally/financially before we get married? It is a second marriage for both of us.

Re: Middle-aged marriage

Debts incurred prior to marriage are your debts not marital Debt.

As to the loans for your daughter you would have to look at the loan agreements as to what the liability would be to your estate. As someone with student loans in repayment I know the only way I get out of them is my death.

What you want to research are prenuptial agreements. In addition the both of you should consider updating your wills and/or estate plans.
