Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

former landlord trashed personal items

Due to a family emergency I had to relocate back home (3 hours from were I had been living) We were not able to inform our land lord due to the fact he was on vacation at the time. I recently found out he trashed our personal items. These Items were valued at 50,000 dollars. What are my rights ? A friend of mines told me that pa law states they must put in storage for 30 days after which they may auction it off. There is also a very big sentimental value on a lot of the item ( was was a 70 year old buffet belong to my husbands dead aunt. Am I able to sue for my lost ?

Re: former landlord trashed personal items

How long were you gone before he "trashed" your items? How long had it been since you had paid rent? If what you are saying is true, then, yes, you have an action against the landlord to recover your loss, but you will have to have proof of the value of the items.
