checking account of deceased person

My friends mother just passed away leaving some money in her checking account that she had with her late husband.There was no will.My friend would like to use that money for bills at her mothers house until her & her siblings figure out what they are going to do with the house. What can she do?

An administrator needs to be appointed for the estate. This is usually done by the county register of wills.

Once someone is appointed they will have access to that money for the purposes of the estate.

An attorney should be able to assist with this process.
