If you had your parental rights terminated you will not have to pay child support UNLESS you owed back child support at the time your parental rights were terminated. The Court Order must say that your "Parental Rights were Terminated." On the other hand, if someone has legal and physical custody of your child and your rights were not terminated then you are absolutely responsible for child support. The person with custody can seek child support from you either through the family court or through the Department of Social Services. If you have been served with any legal papers seeking child support I suggest that you make an appointment for a consultation with a family law attorney in South Carolina--if you live out of state you may be able to have a consult over the phone. Good luck.
