Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Non-custodial rights to notification of medical and psycological treatment

I am a non-custodial parent. My son has begun phycological treatment and his father refuses to give me any information about the treating physician. I know that I have a right to records, but I do not know the name of the physician to obtain a court order. do I request the information from him by some type of legal form and then upon his refusal have a court order the release of the treating physician. He stated that his attorney told him not to notify me of his therapy and that the therapist did not need my input. My son was the one who informed me of the appointment. Help???

If you have already been to court and have obtained a court order regarding custody, you may want to review the order to see what it says, as there may be a provision that might be helpful. Maybe your son could tell you who he is seeing. Other than that, you can file an action in the family court to compel the father to release the information your seeking. It is not necessary to request the information from him with any type of legal form. I don't see any reason why the judge wouldn't order him to inform you of the doctor's/therapist's name.
