Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

American Express Corporate Card

My former company issued me an American Express Corporate Card. I simply handed the card and did not fill out any sort of application or request. When I left the company, I returned the card along with any outstanding expense reports. Some months later I was contacted by American Express and asked to pay the amount owed on the card. I responded that this was not my debt but the debt of my former company. They referred my account to a more aggressive collections company and now I'm afraid I might need legal representation.

Re: American Express Corporate Card

Something is fishy. If the Am Ex card was in the name of your employer, clearly that is who has the liability for payment. If there was no contract between you and Am Ex, you don't owe them for business expenditures. If you misused the card for personal purchases that is another story.

What does your former employer say? Why didn't they pay the charges long before now?
