Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas
Can a collection agency still collect on a debt 10 years old?
About 10 years ago, I had a credit card debt of about $10,000 of which I could not pay. So I quit making payments. It is now 10 years later and it has been wiped off my credit report. However, during the last few weeks a collection agency has been contacting me and trying to collect. Hasn't the statue of limitations run out on it? Should I just ignore them?

You must respond. Deny the debt they are claiming, and tell them that the statute of limitations has run. That is in writing, sent certified mail.
