Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

Felony 2 indictment, PLS Help me.

I posted some months ago about a phone call that someone was stealing in a store and tried to run over the security officer(not true) etc, I was not even aware what was going on, I got into mycar to leave after walking over 300 ft to my car, saw a person outside my window, drove off since I feared being carjacked. Few months later, a sherrifs deputed showed up with a warrant, arrested for robbery, taken to the county was bailed out. I hired a lawyer, paid deposit, and that was that. He told me he cannot do anything until a trial date was set, and now I am being indicted. He did not go to the court to find out anything about the case before the grandjury date, and now is there anything that he can do for me before the date, because I don't know what I am accussed of stealing, and is it the normal practice for the lawyer not to do anything until the indictment date was set? I feel that he wants a trial and I cannot afford a trial, and I already signed a contract with him, given him a deposit, can I get out of the contract if I feel he is not helping my case? This is in collin county. And for indictment, will they jail you when you appear in court for first hearing since the letter says you can't leaveuntil the court says so?

As long as you are out on bond, you will not be jailed just for going to court. The purpose of the bond is to guarantee that you will appear in court. You cannot be put in jail for the offense you are charged with unless the court finds you guilty and sentences you which it cannot do unless you have (or waive) a trial.

I don't know what is normal where you are. Since you are contending that you are innocent, it is not unuaual for an attorney to wait until the first appearance date. On that date he may be able to review the DA's file in court and find out their version of what happened.
