Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
My 86 yr old mother (widow) is becoming more confused and forgetful. I am one of 3 daughters. I recently learned that one of my sisters has been trying to get my mother to lend her a large sum of money. Mother is not a wealthy person - she has a little money and her home is debt free. Same sister wants to buy Mother's house, with Mother self-financing. At her age I think Mother should keep her assets, rather than trading them for notes that will be paid off over years. How can she be protected from this?

Unfortunately, the situation you describe happens often in families.
You need to talk to an estate planning attorney or elder law attorney as soon as possible.
Look on this website & on www.avvo.com for an attorney.
I have been trained in elder law mediation to assist families in working together to resolve issues. I was trained by Dr. Barbara Manousso. I highly recommend her. She has a website. Elder law mediation is a growing field as the US population ages.
I hope this information has been helpful.

I would also suggest contacting Adult Protective Services. They can investigate and, if necessary, take action on behalf of your mom.
Good luck.
