Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
child custody
My ex girlfriend and I have a 3 year old daughter for whom I pay child support for.I get to see her on week-ends.My question is my ex firlfriends boyfriend ( whom she lives with) is joining the Navy. Can she take my daughter to live outside of our state ( which is Texas) without my permission?I have child support papers stating when I get her and for what holidays but we never went to court so I don't think I have joint custody.
Thank-you

Re: child custody
It really depends on whether the court order governing possession and access contains any geographic restrictions on the child's residence.
If there is no restriction, they can move out of state.
I would recommend that you sit down with an attorney and go over the court order to fully determine what rights you may have in the event they do move out of state. Most orders have a specific set of rules for parents that live more than 100 miles apart from one another. In addition, the financial burden of facilitating your periods of visitation with your daughter could possibly shift to the child's mother.
