Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

harassment

Manager of small business (not her own) hires daughter. After several months an employee of the same small business (who had worked at the small business for 24 years) aproaches manager saying daughter is receiving special treatment at workplace such as higher wages, not being reprimanded for coming in late, leaving early, taking long lunches and in general not doing her job. Employee of 24 years tells manager she feels like this was unfair treatment to herself and the other employees and that allowing her daughter these extra priviliges was causing a moral problem among the co-workers. Manager became furious with my sister and told her to mind her own business that she was the manager. Manager basically freezes out employee for several weeks making work environment very unfriendly and uncomfortable. Employee of 24 years had less than 1 month earlier received a raise and a good evaluation. Employee of 24 years was fired by manager ''services no longer required''. New person hired for this same position. Could this be considered job harassment?

Re: harassment

Being terminated for office politics relating to nepotism is not prohibited by Texas law. Texas is an at will state. An employer can terminated an employee for any reason except those that are prohibited by labor and employment law.
