Legal Question in Employment Law in Texas

I am interested in getting my RN license to become a Nurse. I have successfully completed deferred adjudication from a Misdemeanor B Pos. of Marijuana charge back in 2000. Will this affect me getting a job as a Nurse or getting my license?

Over the years its been my privilege to represent nurses in licensing and disciplinary issues in Texas. I have not represented anyone who is who is seeking a license or employment with a criminal history involving a Class B misdemeanor for possession of marijuana. I have represented RNs who have retained their licenses and secured employment who have committed more serious violations involving substances in the possession of hospitals. The answer to your question is that legally you are not barred from obtaining a license or employment as an RN in Texas based on such a conviction in 2000. So I encourage you to pursue a career in the nursing profession. No employer will be required to hire you, but I doubt that many will refuse to consider you for employment so long as you otherwise meet their needs and continue to stay clean of any drug use.
