Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Texas

Power of Attorney

I currently have POA on a person who is incarcerated. He was a co-worker. There are several issues surrounding this so please be patient with my explanation. First, we did it so I could help with his affairs while locked up. Then we found out he had been committing fraud against everyone he knew & the company we both work for. I have the only existing copy of the POA. It was never filed with the courts. Is it still legal & am I liable for not maintaining his affairs. We found out about the fraud 3 days after the arrest and he has also threatened me from jail in letters which the DA has copies of. The POA was notarized. The notary did not keep a copy of documents.
