Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

Is it customary for a probate lawyer to refuse to answer any questions on the telephone and to require the client (executor) to make an office appointment for any questions? The client is elderly and must make a 100-mile round trip to the office and is charged $250 for each appointment.

No. If that is truly the case, I would find another lawyer.

I agree with Cheryl. If you don't know of another lawyer, contact the lawyer referral section of the local bar association. It appears from your zip code that you are in the San Antonio Area. So the San Antonio Bar Association would be appropriate.

Understand however, that the lawyer needs to know he or she is representing. So at least one meeting might be in order. If fees are an issue you should make that known. It may be possible to negotiate something other than an hourly rate. Again, if fees are an issue you may consider contacting some of the local services in your area that provide assistance to the elderly or the indigent.
