Could applying for assistance such as food stamps for a citizen child of undocumented parents affect their chances of obtaining legal permanent residency?

If both parents are undocumented, how do they intend to apply for permanent residency?
A US citizen child can get public benefits. However, a minor child cannot help his undocumented parents to obtain residency.
