Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Utah

Can anyone in the family initiate probate

I have been waiting to hear from anyone in my family about my uncles will. I get no response when I call or e-mail or even sending a letter and have heard nothing down the grapevine. Is there a way to find out - outside the family circle what is happening? Can the family memeber that is in charge of the will put off probate or maybe even not admitting that the uncle is dead? If so how long should I wait before I take action myself. I'm worried the most about personal possessions that my uncle told me I could have being taken by someone else. Also if I have been stated in the will who would contact me?

Re: Can anyone in the family initiate probate

Generally, but not always, probate is opened in the county district court in which your uncle lived at his death, or where most of his property is located. Any related person can open probate. You may want to call your uncle's children or other next of kin first.
