Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My 17 year old granddaughter has been asked to move out by her mother and can not retun to her home in Florissant,Mo. She is currently staying with a family friend in St. Louis. I would like for my granddaughter to come here to Herndon, Va to live with me and finish her senior year of high school. What, if anything, do I need to do ,from a legal standpoint once she is here.I want to get her registered for school; her Mom is angry with her. She says she doesn't care if she finishes school and doesn't care where she goes. Please help me

If the mother is by chance willing to agree to grant you legal custody of the child via agreement entered as a court order, you may be fine. Otherwise, it may prove difficult to enroll her in school in Virginia without the ability to demonstrate that you are legally permitted to do so. As a grandparent, it will prove very difficult to obtain legal rights to the child over the parent's objection. If you intend to attempt that, certainly obtain an attorney to assist you. Uphill battle. Good luck.
