Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia
Roommate Eviction
Ok so here it goes. Have a roommate (ex) that was aware 2 months ago that 1/14/2009 was to be their last day at the apartment. A few days before 1/14/2009 they advised us (myself and the other tenant on lease) that they were having issues finding a new place and requested an extension. We granted an extension until the end of the month. As of this time they have 10 days left and still no real progress has been made in them finding a new place. They WERE on the lease and were removed effective 1/14/2009 so as of this time they would be considered a house guest? Right now we share a bedroom and I would like to get my privacy and have somewhat of a life again. What can I do if they aren't out?

Re: Roommate Eviction
If this tenant continues with an unauthorized occupancy of the unit, the landlord will have to initiate eviction procedures in the local general district court to remove him or her from the premises.
