How to remove friend from temp. housing

How does one remove a friend from temporary housing assistance that now refuses to go? Not a landlord situation and no monies exchanged; Sr. friend helping friend.

Re: How to remove friend from temp. housing

Tell your friend that he has to leave. If he refuses, call the police who will show up. Tell them he is a house guest who has overstayed his welcome and now you want him to leave. The police with verify this with your friend. If he agrees, they will usually ask him to leave and that's that.

If the police think there may be a possible landlord-tenant relationship or a domestic or sexual relationship, they'll likely stay out of it and tell you that you need to obtain a court order to remove your friend. If that happens, you'll need to obtain an anti-harassment order that requires your friend to stay away from your home and the police will serve this order. You get this order "ex-parte" meaning without the other side present to defend his position. Within two weeks, you and your friend will be back in court to explain both sides of the story and the judge will decide what to do.
