Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama

child custody

I am expecting a child in Nov. the baby's father is trying to force me into giving him his last name. We were never married. He is also demanding 7 day visitation every other week starting after he's a month old. I do not agree with that. He is also trying to use the fact that we discussed abortion in the beginning, and he said he supported my decision either way. Now he's going to try to use that against me. Can he do this? Help!

Re: child custody

The pertinent authority is the Alabama Dept. of Public Health Reg. 420-7-1-.12 "Child's Name On A Birth Certificate," which states "The parents/mother may give a child any name they wish and this name should be entered on the birth certificate. One parent must sign the birth certificate indicating the information given is correct." You need to make it very clear to the nurses at the hospital that you, and only you, are to be consulted regarding the child's name.
