As Stan says, there is no set age. The judge has discretion to give whatever weight he or she chooses to the child's preferences, regardless of the child's age. Judges tend to give more weight, the more mature the child is. Maturity may not depend exclusively on chronological age, i.e., the judge could hypothetically give significant weight to a very mature 12 year old while ignoring the wishes of an immature 14 year old.

This question poses a popular myth - that at some point before majority at age 18, a child gets to pick and choose which parent they will live with. If the parties cannot agree on custody, the judge has the option of listening to the child's wishes and may, if the judge decides the child has sufficient maturity to be making the choice, honor the child's wishes.
