Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

My wife and I were renting a home from my wife's sister and her husband. They knew beforehand about our financial situation at the time and took care of a couple months rent for us which we greatly appreciated. I then started receiving my VA money and was able to pay a couple months worth of rent and utilities. The following month there was an issue and I received no money and explained the situation. They decided they wanted us out and out RIGHT AWAY. We had been complaining for months about an ant problem that was so bad that every day we found ants crawling on our newborn, on us and all over the house. We also had an issue with the heating and a/c which they knew about before we moved in and was told it was going to be fixed. Neither issue was ever fixed. Then we decided to move in with my wife's parents until we figured something else out. We moved a few items and then were told we had to hurry and get everything out within a day because they had taken money from someone else (their neice) and had to get everything fixed for her. We were beyond mad and hurt by this and told them that if they wanted us out they would have to take us to court and have us evicted. That same night they called the sheriff and the sheriff made us remove everything from the home and put it by the curb. I tried showing the sheriff the lease which still had over 6 months left and she said that the lease was no good and we had to remove all of our items. We packed what we could in the truck and left. When we came back first thing the next morning all of our things had been taken. What sort of steps can we take on this? There wasn't any eviction process started and we still had a valid lease. Can we also go after the sheriff's dept for forcing us out without proper eviction documentation and making us lose the majority of our possessions? Thank you.
