Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Michigan

Medical Bill-Small claims court

I was told by the doctor himself that a medical procedure he wanted to do would be covered by my 2 insurance policies minus whatever deductable. He did the procedure and then sent me a bill for 700.00 2 months later. Turns out neither insurance companies covered the procedure at all. 1 year later after I refused to pay they are now taking me to small claims court and I am racking my brain trying to think of a general legal defense to tell the judge. I was thinking along the lines of fraud, but it does not seem right. Appreciate any ideas. Thanks
