Legal Question in Employment Law in Ohio

fired from 8 year job

I was fired three days ago from a male dominated car dealership. I have worked there for about 8 years in upper managment position. My performance was never in question. I have recently been told by owner that I should not have promoted black man and that his new position would be better done by a woman. I also was told on almost a daily basis that I ''sucked'' I also have a very sexually graphic e-mail video that was sent to me by my manager. I was scared to show anyone for fear I would lose my job. But now that I have already lost it I want to make public so this will not happen to anyone else. Where do I go from here?

Re: fired from 8 year job

I agree with Mr. Hanner. You appear to have a claim for being wrongfully fired from your job. The facts you describe present complex issues of law regarding unlawful retaliation, race discrimination, and sex discrimination.

You could contact either the Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC) or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to file charges against your employer. This would make your allegations against the employer a public record. But I would recommend that before you go to either agency, you should discuss your matter directly with a lawyer who is experienced in the field of representing employees in discrimination cases.

The loss of long term employment is always traumatic. It is especially costly for employees in upper management positions. Your losses in terms of income and other difficulties you may experience in the process of changing jobs unexpectedly may be quite substantial. An experienced employment lawyer can help you assess these losses and how best to pursue recovering compensation.

Not all lawyers will recommed that you immediately file charges with the OCRC or EEOC. That is why I reccomend that you discuss your case with a lawyer first before you file any charges. In any event, you should not delay in taking action.

Sometimes, the statute of limitations on your claims can be very short. If the statute of limitations runs out, you lose your claims. So act immediately and avoid that possible problem.

It sounds to me like you may have a claim against your former employer. Did they give you any reasons for firing you?
