Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in California

arrested, held 5 days no charges, impounded car now $700

My 19 year old nephew was arrested on

a warrent for a crime he allegidly

committed as a minor. Juvenile Hall

held him for 5 days without charging

him formally. They impounded his car,

although there was no apparent need

for that as he was parked in a public lot.

After 5 days they released him without

telling him what the charges related to

specifically. Now the impound yard

wants their pound of flesh in the

amount of $700 and climbing daily. He

does not have the money and is now

homeless. Is this legal? What are his

options?

His option is to bail out the car before more charges are incurred, and to defend against the criminal charges when they are filed. He can file a government tort claim on the impound issue. Have him contact me if interested in defending the criminal charges.
