I was caught stealing from macys in riverside california with the amount of $255.00 and was given a citation having misdemeanor circled. Do i need an attorney? What are my options? How do I get this exspunged from my record? What is diversion?

You don't need an attorney if you can effectively represent yourself in court against a professional prosecutor trying to convict you of a crime and put you in jail. Your options are to plead guilty and take whatever the judge sentences you to, or to hire an attorney to negotiate an acceptable deal if possible, or take it through hearings, motions and trial, using whatever facts, evidence and defenses you may have.
