That is a very serious charge with extremely long term consequences. The amount of time that is ultimately given depends on the facts of the case as well as a possible disposition that could be negotiated by the attorney during the pre-trial stages of the case.

The best advice I could give would be to get in touch with an attorney in your area asap.

The answer to that will come from the DA and judge, taking into consideration the actually charge[s] filed, the circumstances of the crime, the rap sheet, etc, etc., as influenced and argued by defense counsel. As a felony, it could easily result in years of prison time. Get an attorney. If serious about doing so, feel free to contact me.

How much time a person would serve depends on many factors - the particular facts of the case, the exact charge they're convicted of, their prior record, etc.

Sexual assault crimes can carry a substantial range of charges from any given incident. Attempted rape, assault with intent to commit rape and a variety of others are all possible if the facts support them.

These charges are something that could haunt him for the rest of his life if not handled properly.
